Description
The surface flickers, harnessing light, shadow, and low-relief depth to reveal and conceal itself as viewers move around the works. The works operate as reconceptualised portals where the tension is between looking out into the ineffable and looking within. I am searching for new meaning in Christian iconography and architecture while understanding my personal narrative of veneration and contradiction. Pure beeswax candles replace doves as a pure offering in Christian traditions. This is my new offering, disassociated from my religion; stoic, veiled, imperfect and transgenerational, abstracted from its genesis.
These references are translated by using ancient and contemporary techniques passed on to me by community and my own experimental and research practices. Art making is an ongoing personal attempt to express faith visually from my lived and learnt experiences. This is my new offering, disassociated from my religion; stoic, veiled, imperfect and transgenerational, abstracted from its genesis.
