Description

To create Food and Inspiration, Wendy (Samford), Renata Buziak uses an experimental photographic process that she developed and called the biochrome. This process fuses plant samples and photographic emulsions over a period of time, allowing organic decomposition to transform both materials into new, abstract, yet often accurately depicted, images of plants.

“I use a lot of the plants in my garden for my textile work, as straight inspiration for things that I do, for patterns and designs. And also I use some of the foliage from plants for natural dyeing… having a lot of eucalyptus trees is very helpful with that as well because you get lots of good colour from the local eucalypts. I also use the roses, the bay tree, the citrus, for the natural dyeing, and I’m just starting to plant some flowers – some coreopsis and some and madder root, which is a good natural dye as well, and marigold, (you) get really nice colours from marigold.” – Wendy

Food and Inspiration, Wendy (Samford) features in Renata’s solo exhibition Revisiting Pine Rivers Gardens in Biochromes
