Description
My current studio research focuses on Gondwanan lineage plants of the World Heritage Rainforest of Australia region in the Scenic Rim as I am undertaking artistic residency at Binna Burra Cultural Landscape. I am honoured to be the first artist in residence on the Binna Burra, in the legacy of a prominent Queensland artist Vida Lahey. This residency is part of a new art program called Art. Nature. Science. initiated as part of the post bushfires recovery, to engage an artist to develop new work, and engage the local and wider community to bring’the spirit of Binna Burra’ back. To create my work i use an experimental photographic process I developed and call the biochrome. This process fuses plant samples and photographic emulsions over a period of time, allowing organic decomposition to transform both materials into new, abstract, yet often accurately depicted, images of plants.
These three new works will be part of Renata’s forthcoming solo exhibition at Binna Burra Lodge, where she has been the first Artist-in-Residence. This will be an extremely exciting event! More information here.
